Spotify new features 2026: the full list and what has actually reached Germany

Spotify has shipped more in the past twelve months than in the five years before that. If you follow the news, you know the drill: you read about Prompted Playlists, open your app, and there's nothing there. That's not you. Spotify staggers almost every rollout, and Germany is sometimes in the first wave and sometimes months behind.

Here's the rundown of every new feature, sorted by what actually matters if you produce or release music, with the honest status for German accounts instead of the US press copy.

Spotify Lossless in Germany: what it means for your masters

The big one first. Since fall 2025, Spotify Premium streams lossless, up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC. Germany and Austria were in the first rollout wave. No extra charge, it's part of the regular Premium plan. You switch it on under "Media quality" in settings, separately for Wi-Fi, cellular, and downloads.

One catch: Bluetooth doesn't have the bandwidth. If you want actual lossless, you're back on a cable.

For anyone sitting at a console, this matters. The WAV you hand your distributor now reaches listeners far closer to the original. For years, the compressed stream topping out around 320 kbps was the excuse for not sweating top-end detail too much. That excuse is gone.

The Spotify AI DJ speaks German now: voice "Ben," live since May 2026

Since May 2026, the AI DJ runs in German, with its own German voice called "Ben." Germany, Austria, and Switzerland are officially in, and the feature now covers more than 75 markets. Premium only.

Think what you want about the concept (a radio host who never takes a break). But from an artist's perspective, the DJ is one more algorithmic channel your music can surface in, and it now introduces your tracks in German. Spotify says 94 million users have tried the feature so far.

Spotify SongDNA and About the Song: your credits are visible now

This is the change that gets buried in the consumer coverage and matters most to people like us. Since February 2026, Spotify shows swipeable cards under the player with background on the song ("About the Song"). Since late March, SongDNA has been layering on top, first as a beta, now rolling out globally to Premium accounts: who wrote it, who produced it, which samples and interpolations are in there, and which covers it inspired.

Put bluntly: your credits used to be a metadata graveyard nobody ever opened. Now they're a visible feature on the Now Playing screen. If you're credited as a producer on five releases, listeners can trace that and click their way from song to song.

Which means keeping your credits clean finally pays off twice. The data flows through your label or distributor, and Spotify for Artists is getting a preview area where artist teams can review and correct what SongDNA displays. It fits the broader push: since late April, artist profiles can carry a light green "Verified by Spotify" check (you can't apply, Spotify reviews profiles itself), and the new profile protection, currently in beta, keeps unauthorized uploads off your page.

Spotify Messages and Listening Activity: chat inside the app

Since late August 2025, Spotify has been building its own chat into the app: Messages, for sharing songs and playlists without the detour through WhatsApp. It launched in Latin America first; an EU rollout was announced, but Spotify never named a date for Germany. You'll know your account is in when a "Messages" tab shows up in the profile menu.

Two things landed on top of it in 2026: Listening Activity shows your contacts what you're playing in real time (opt-in, thankfully), and Request to Jam lets two people in different places listen to the same queue. Premium users can host free users, too.

When will Prompted Playlists and co. reach Germany?

The uncomfortable list. As of August 2026, German accounts are missing:

• Prompted Playlists. You describe in plain sentences what you want to hear and Spotify builds the playlist. Running as a beta in New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and Sweden, English input only. No date for Germany.
• Running Mode. Workout playlists matched to BPM and training style, live since late July, but iOS only and limited to seven markets. Germany isn't one of them.
• User Notes (personal captions on tracks in playlists) have been rolling out since late July in "select markets." Spotify won't say which.
• Personal Podcasts (AI-generated private episodes) are US Premium only.
• Reserved by Spotify, which holds tour tickets for your most dedicated listeners, starts in summer 2026 with Live Nation in the US.

The pattern is hard to miss. On anything audio-quality related, Germany was up front. On anything that needs a language model with an English interface, we're at the back of the line.

Announced: licensed remixes and a Studio app

At the Investor Day in May, Spotify also showed where this is heading. Two things belong on your radar.

First, a cover and remix tool backed by a licensing deal with Universal: fans will be able to build their own versions of participating artists' catalog tracks, sold as a paid Premium add-on, with "consent, credit, and compensation" from day one. As a producer I'm torn. On one hand, even more generated content in the feed. On the other, remixes happen anyway, currently without a license and without the rights holder seeing a cent. If the model delivers what the press release promises, it's the cleaner state of the world.

Second, "Studio," a standalone desktop app out of Spotify Labs that generates private, personalized audio. It's coming as a research preview for Premium users in more than 20 markets. Alongside it: Memberships, which will let podcast creators sell subscriptions directly on Spotify.

Where German accounts stand at a glance

What you can do today costs nothing: listen through your own masters in lossless on a wired setup once, and check your credits on every release before SongDNA shows them to the whole world. Both take an evening, and both feed straight into how you come across.
